Arthouse Horror Classics

the-innocents

I asked myself: “What if someone gave you access to an Arthouse movie theater for a week to present a lineup of classic Horror films – which movies would you choose?” Here are my picks, a double feature each night:

Monday:
Nosferatu (1922) and Vampyr (1931)

Tuesday:
I Walked with a Zombie (1943) and Curse of the Cat People (1944)

Wednesday:
Les Diaboliques (1955) and Peeping Tom (1960)

Thursday:
Kwaidan (1964) and Onibaba (1965)

Friday:
The Innocents (1961) and Repulsion (1965)

Saturday:
Black Sunday (1960) and The Tomb of Ligeia (1964)

Sunday
Frankenstein (1931) and Freaks (1932)

This isn’t a comprehensive list of what I consider the most artistic horror films of all time, but it’s close. I would probably only add about a half dozen more or so.

I’ve linked to my previous posts regarding these films for further insights into why I consider these important films.
